Kara graduated from Kean University with a BSW in 1994, and went on to receive her MSW from Rutgers University, Graduate School of Social Work in 1997. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey in 1999.

Kara also holds certification to supervise social workers, and is a Certified Clinical Supervisor for Substance Abuse.

Through the course of her career, she has been both a manager and a direct care practitioner in a wide range of settings, including outpatient, addictions, partial care, residential, outreach and crisis.

Her experience has allowed her the opportunity to work with adults across the spectrum of mental health issues, within urban and suburban settings. She is also an experienced grant writer; and was successful in securing funding to open a community-based crisis program which she managed for 7 years.

Kara has received training in Motivational Interviewing, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, and ICBT (CBT for addictions), crisis debriefing, as well as trauma informed care. She utilizes a client-centered approach, and specializes in working with individuals who have experienced significant trauma, including those who have utilized substances to cope with that trauma. She is also experienced at working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, in addition to PTSD.
